The Town of Carrboro is happy to announce another successful review of the Town’s efforts in promoting LGBTQ inclusion. Since 2014, the Town has been rated by the Human Rights Commission in their annual report of the Municipal Equality Index (MEI). The index measures the Town’s efforts in LGBTQ inclusion in municipal law, policies and services. The Town received an overall score of 70 again in 2019. Mayor Lavelle stated that, “The Town is proud to be a leader in advancing LGBTQ protections for all of our residents. Unfortunately, discriminatory statewide policies in the state of North Carolina affect our ability to do even more, but we are constantly looking for ways through existing law and policy to increase our MEI score. We look forward to the day when discrimination against our LGBTQ community is no longer licensed by the General Assembly.”
