Create a Climate Action (CAT) Team
The Council opened a call for volunteers and applicants to provide expertise and input on implementation of the Community Climate Action Plan and municipal Energy and Climate Protection Plan. CAT members will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the yearly environmental sustainability work plan and ongoing climate action initiatives. Managed Natural Landscapes (Deferred to Future Meeting)
The Council will consider amending the Town Code to allow managed natural landscapes. These are “planned, intentional, and maintained planting of native or non-native wildflowers, shrubs, trees, graminoids, or herbaceous species, including but not limited to rain gardens, pollinator gardens, native Piedmont vegetation, and ornamental plantings.”
Public Hearing on CDBG-CV Grant Application for Emergency Housing Assistance
The Town of Carrboro plans to apply to the NC Department of Commerce for $900,000 in Federal Community Development Block Grant – Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) funds, which the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allocated to the State. Public Hearing for Updated Bicycle Plan
The Council and members of the public provided feedback on the Updated Bicycle Plan available at http://townofcarrboro.org/DocumentCenter/View/8148/Carrboro-Updated-Bike-Plan-Final Suggestions received included listing out all planned bike/ped locations, looking for ways to make more connections, and considering bike lockers and a public shower facility.
Visit Carrboro Website
The Council received a presentation on the Visit Carrboro website from the Carrboro Tourism Development Authority. The website is anticipated to “go-live” on Nov. 5. Learn more at http://townofcarrboro.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1473
Consideration to Continue Use of Federal Seizure Program
The Council decided to discontinue immediately its participation in this program, which allows state and local law enforcement officials to use federal law to seize the cash, cars or other personal property of people suspected of crimes but not charged.
Mural Update
The Council received an update on the Black Lives Matter painting on the south side of the Century Center Building.
