Almost all disasters are natural disasters. You probably familiar with some of them, such as tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, etc. Some natural disasters are predictable (like hurricanes and severe winter storms). Others on the other hand, such as tornadoes and earthquakes, are hard or impossible to predict. Sometimes disasters caused by human actions, intentional or unintentional. But, if you want to fell yourself in safety, security, and comfort, you’ll need a disaster plan. Depends on kind of disaster, there are few things need to be done to prepare. You need either to visit the FEMA Web site or contact a local Red Cross chapter. At least you will be aware of the potential for natural disasters in the city you live in. When you will know which types of disasters can strike the place you live, create a disaster plan for your whole family. It has to be simple so everyone can remember the details.
November 9, 2018, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Art Therapy Institute
Please join us for the 2nd Friday ArtWalk opening reception for artist Mayson Stowers whose work centers on symbolic self-portraiture and self-reflection, presented in a way that audiences can relate to and find comfort in.
“Apperception: the mental process by which a person makes sense of an idea by assimilating it to the body of ideas he or she already possesses.” No word better describes the art of Raleigh native, Mayson Stowers. Trained in impressionistic oil painting, she pushes this and other media beyond traditional boundaries to create work centering on symbolic self-portraiture and self-reflection. She uses vibrant colors, intricate concepts, and fantastical symbolism blended with realistic representations to reveal her own struggles in hopes of encouraging others, explaining complex feelings and mental states through pictorial similes.

Steven Silverleaf has worked with models and sitting figures for over fifteen years but creates most of his work from his imagination in the absence of the model. He uses a variety of mediums to create a relaxed and introspective mood. The work shows a love of both the tradition of drawing and painting in combination. The artist explores a very distinctive line and color that is all his own. Exhibition on display through December.
