PROGRAM SUPPORT ASSISTANT I – Recreation & Parks Department. Full-time permanent. Serves as primary front line person for reception, phone inquiries, and program registration. Class software will be used to reserve recreation facilities and register customers for programs. Duties include word processing, answering phone, posting records to accounts, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, collecting fees for recreation programs, assisting with program and office operations. Requires graduation from high school supplemented by clerical/office experience and excellent math, oral and written skills. Exp. with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Publisher preferred. Hiring range: $25,187 - $27,705; excellent benefits. Closing date: September 26, 2008.

PLANNER/ZONING DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST - Planning Department. (Pop. 18,611) Full-time permanent. Varied long-range and current planning duties. Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree with major course work in urban planning, architecture, engineering, or related field, and considerable experience in planning. GIS experience is desired. Effective oral and written communication skills and occasional attendance at night meetings are required. Salary range: $41,295 - $64,006; excellent benefits. MAINTENANCE/CONSTRUCTION WORKER – Public Works Department. Full-time permanent. Performs routine, heavy manual work assisting in the repair, maintenance, and care of streets, storm sewer, and related areas. High school diploma/GED required. Requires Class B CDL with air brakes certification, or must obtain such within 45 days from date of hire. Subject to pre-employ drug screen. Salary range: $27,809-$43,104. Open until filled.

POLICE OFFICER I – Police Department. Full-time permanent. Performs entry-level law enforcement work on assigned rotating shift. High school graduate or equivalent and possession of valid NC driver’s license required. NC Basic Law Enforcement Training certification preferred, but not required. Successful candidate must meet state and departmental requirements, including a comprehensive background investigation, drug screening, and medical and psychological examinations. Salary range: $35,596 - $55,173; excellent benefits. Open until filled.
