The Carrboro Recreation & Parks Department offices are within the Carrboro Century Center, 100 N. Greensboro St. located in the heart of downtown Carrboro.

We welcome participation by all persons regardless of race, age, socio-economic level, color, sex, disability, religious belief, national origin or sexual orientation.

Fees
Fees are charged for most programs to help defray program costs. An additional fee is charged if you live outside Orange County for programs not based on 100% direct cost recovery. There is no out of county fee for programs based on 100% direct cost recovery.(Classes, workshops, trips, day camps). Where applicable, out of county fee is $72 /individual/year. For those desiring to participate in a single activity, the out of county is $ 24 / general programs or $ 36 / sport.

Financial Assistance Program
The Financial Assistance Program (FAP) is available for families and individuals who live in Orange County that desire to participate but are unable to pay fees for classes and activities offered by the Recreation and Parks Department.

Each family or individual must meet the eligibility guidelines in order to receive a full fee waiver or reduction membership - 25% of the fee cost. If your family does not meet the income eligibility but is currently experiencing extenuating circumstances, complete the application and explain in the comment section your particular circumstances. Then submit your application along with documentation of income. All families or individuals will be notified at least a week after submitting their information concerning your participation status.

Your FAP membership must be approved at the time of registration in order to receive the waiver or reduction. Once approved the membership is good for one year beginning in July. Membership includes the opportunity for everyone in the household to participate in two classes or activities per programming session. Families and individuals can apply for the program any time during the year. If changes occur in your financial standings or circumstances prior to the end of your membership period, please notify the Recreation and Parks Director immediately.

When the membership expires, renewal is needed to continue using the benefits of the program. Annual membership renewal is held in August. Reminder letters and forms will be sent out prior to membership expiration.

How To Register:

1. Fill out the application.

2. Attach all that apply to your income situation:

First preference - current pay stub, unemployment compensation, worker's compensation, net income from self-owned business, child support, alimony and recent tax return.

Letter confirming eligibility of food stamps or other federal benefits.

We will accept alternative documentation, please speak with the Recreation and Parks Director about other possibilities.

3. Submit your application and documentation to Recreation and Parks Director, Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department, 100 North Greensboro Street, Carrboro, NC 27510.

Special Needs
Individuals with special needs are encouraged to take advantage of programs. Please let us know of any assistance you may need in advance of participation.. Contact Dana Hughes- 918-7372.

Refunds
All requests for refunds should be submitted in writing.

No refunds, transfers or credits will be issued after a program has concluded.

Refund checks will be mailed. Allow 2-4 weeks for processing.

Refunds are given for recreation fees only. It is the discretion of the Program Supervisor whether a refund will be given on a commodity (supplies, tickets, apparel, etc.) that has already been purchased by the participant.

Refund Options:
In the event of a change in the nature of the program, or an activity or reservation is cancelled, participants will be contacted and a transfer, full credit or refund will be given.

Requests received more than three (3) days prior to the start of a program, a refund less a $5.00 administrative fee, or full credit or transfer given.

Requests received within the three day window prior to the start date of the activity, a 50% refund, less administrative fee if the slot cannot be filled, if the slot can be filled, a refund less administrative fee, or full credit or transfer will be given.

An injury or illness of a participant. Doctor's documentation is needed. (If the program is underway, the refund will be prorated)

When an activity is underway, a prorated refund less the administrative fee will be given. The Athletic Division will provide a pro-rated refund chart.

Mail-In Registration Information - It's Easy to Sign Up!

  1. Please adhere to the listed registration dates. Registration forms are not accepted prior to the listed dates. Complete the form and mail it in with a check made payable to the Town of Carrboro. You are registered as soon as we receive payment from you. Do not send cash. Your check will serve as your receipt.
  2. As registration is accepted on a first come, first served basis, you should call 919-918-7364 to check on the status of a particular program.
  3. Please mark your calendar because we do not send out acknowledgments. You will be notified only if the program is full, canceled, or changed.
  4. Registration Form Download. You can download, print out, and mail in a registration form for all Recreation and Parks activities. Downloading of the registration form requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free program available from Adobe. If you do not have it you can download and install it by clicking HERE. Inclement Weather Policy:
Programs will be canceled if inclement weather causes poor road conditions. Area radio/TV stations will be contacted. Cancellations before 5pm weekdays will be recorded on the info tape at 918-7373.
