    West Point on the Eno
West Point on the Eno, a natural and historic city park, is located along a two-mile stretch of the Eno River in Durham. The 388 acres of woods, waters, and wildlife have changed little in the centuries since this area was the home of the Shocco and Eno Indians. This scenic park is home to the West Point Mill and other historic buildings which we will be touring as well as established trails along the river. These trails contain some rocky terrain with variety of ferns, flowers and shrubs indigenous to the mountains. Please bring a lunch to enjoy!

This summer walk along the American Tobacco Trail will find us listening for the mating calls of various frogs and toads of North Carolina as they begin their evening chorus. Keep your ears open for the deep "Jug O' Rum" of the bullfrog and the plaintive "Wahhh" of the Fowler's toad. We will also enjoy the beautiful sunset and the last birdsong of the night on this flat trail on high ground. We will travel by van to the New Hill-Olive Chapel trailhead.
