Proclamation Request
A proclamations is an official document issued by the Mayor to commemorate a specific time period (such as a day, week, or month). It brings recognition, awareness, or appreciation to an issue, cause, milestone, or noteworthy even that is relevant and important to Carrboro. The Mayor issues proclamations that have a direct relevance to Carrboro and reflect civic activity, pride, accomplishments, and other important observances. Proclamations are strictly honorary and are not legally binding.
Guidelines for Requests
Please consider the following information before submitting a proclamation request. The Mayor's Office reserves the right to decline any request or make exception to these guidelines:
- Requests should be received 30 days before the requested date of issuance.
- Proclamations should hold town-wide importance or serve an educational or commemorative purpose for a significant number of Carrboro residents.
- Proclamations associated with national or state-designated observances are only issued if they include information that is directly relevant to Carrboro. Proclamations are generally not issued as part of national campaigns, for national organizations, or for issues or groups unrelated to Carrboro.
- Proclamations are generally not issued for individuals, birthdays, retirements, weddings, anniversaries, church events, conferences, meeting, or businesses. You may request a letter from the Mayor's Office for these occasions.
- Issuance of a proclamation does not indicate or imply a policy endorsement from the Mayor.
- Proclamations may not be used for advertisement or commercial promotions.
- Any draft language provided may be edited or rewritten at the judgement of the Mayor's Office. Draft language submitted should be factually accurate and include up-to-date information.
- Proclamations will not be repeated within a calendar year. Requests that are considered redundant will be declined, and a copy of the original proclamation may be provided instead.
- Requests for proclamations are not renewed annually and must be submitted each year.
- Most proclamations are issued only upon requests. So, if a proclamation is important to you or your organization, please request it.
Submission Procedure
To request a proclamation please fill out the form below. The proclamation request must be submitted to the Mayor's Office 30 days before the requested date of issuance. If requests are not made 30 days in advance, every attempt will be made to complete your proclamation but we cannot guarantee you will have it in the requested time frame. Requests should include a draft proclamation, the name, email, phone number of the contact person, and any additional relevant information about the subject of the proclamation.
